These 6 episodes OVA is a great watch if you want a short yet great Gundam story! Not all fans embraced this tonal shift, and the series remains divisive but memorable. This series of theatrical shorts and OVAs were initially parodies of the franchise.
As the series progress, they incorporated a cast of characters based on Gachapon toys. The first OVA in the Gundam franchise, War in the Pocket received critical acclaim for its decidedly introspective tone. Rather than chronicling the exploits of pilots, the series focuses on the war-time experiences of an eleven-year-old civilian. A reboot attempt that never spawned the sequels it promised, F91 faced numerous struggles during its production, including a controversy surrounding the director's choice to alter the size of the onscreen Gundams for the sake of easier toy manufacturing.
Victory Gundam takes place in and serves as a successor to F The series ran for 51 episodes and focused on the conflict between an armed group known as BESPA and a band of rebels known as the League Militaire. In a bid to attract younger fans, the protagonists are younger than in any prior Gundam series. Considered the fifth official Gundam installment, the story centers on an intergalactic tournament that space colonies use as a stand-in for engaging in war.
This shift in the story initially created some dissension among fans, especially because the series felt less serious and decidedly more shonen. In something of a return to basics, Gundam Wing focused once again on intergalactic war. More than any series before it, Gundam Wing popularized the franchise in the US, thanks in no small part to its timeslot on Toonami.
The story depicts the experiences of an Earth Federation ground unit that engages in guerilla warfare in Southeast Asia during the One Year War. After War takes place in an alternate timeline and takes place on a post-apocalyptic version of Earth.
